Walthers two-bay airslide cars were painted and lettered in the GM&O 85000-85035 series. The kit is very accurate to the GM&O prototype and despite some discussion as to the degree of inaccuracy of the lettering across the top of the hopper, the model is quite nicely done. Incorrect return route instructions persist.

The GM&O rostered ten coil cars when in operation, so when Walthers released their coil car kit, it seemed like a perfect match. The car actually depicts a type-III car rather than the Evans type-IV car the GM&O had, but it was very close. Problems with the graphics arose when latter day, ICG-era photos were used for lettering reference, resulting in a car devoid of some of the appropriate graphics, and misplacement of others. The quality of the lettering and paint is first rate, however, making this one of the best models to that time.

For all the gains in model accuracy made in recent years, a giant leap backwards occurred with this effort. Once again, the Athearn 50’ boxcar was painted and lettered to represent GM&O PS1’s. By this time, emerging standards in prototypical accuracy deemed this car’s shortcomings insurmountable, and disinterested modelers let sales reflect this. On the positive side, the practice of using GM&OHS routing instructions was last seen on this car.

For a second straight year, an incorrect model was used for a Society project, utilizing the ConCor 50’ flatcar to represent the GM&O’s 72000-series GSC flatcars and 74000-series bulkhead flatcars. The car was not a good starting point, the lettering was poorly done, and the bulkheads too thin for the GM&O prototype.

A landmark achieved, the Society got everything right with this car project. The ConCor single-bay airslide hoppers were painted and lettered for the GM&O's GACX 43438-43457-series of cars. They were beautifully done by Modeling Chairman Kerry Doyle, and to this day are still one of the Society’s finest efforts.

The use of the C&BT Shops model to depict the 26400-series of GM&O 40’ red boxcars ushered in the Dave Wagner era of modeling for the GM&OHS. 100 sets of these beautifully done cars were produced, and all sold out within a few weeks of their 1995 introduction. This project started a five-year run of diversity and prototypical accuracy in Society model car offerings.
