GM&OHS Special Edition HO Car Gallery

1996 to 1998

#13  1996

Rd. Nos. NRC 16289 16340 18373 19620 19622 19651

This six-car set of GM&O leased NRC ice reefers represent prototype cars were used to haul highly perishable meat products.  Like those meat products, these beautifully done models had a brief shelf life, as they sold out in a month and are quite hard to find for sale today.  The Athearn model has since been surpassed in detail by several manufacturers, but its economical price contributed greatly to this project’s success.

#14 1996

Rd. Nos. 72051 72056 72061 72070

Tichey Train Group’s 53’ GSC flatcar wasn’t the first choice of the Society for car no. 14, but worked out very well in the end.  The question at the time was, “Will the membership respond to another try at a GM&O flatcar after car #10?”  The answer was a resounding, “Yes!”  The reason was simple: the model was perfect and the graphics were 100% correct, unlike the model offered in 1991.

#15 1997

Rd. Nos. 80713 80725 80726 80744

In 1997, the chosen model for car no.15 was the Con-Cor PS2 Hopper painted and lettered for the railroad’s 80712-49 series, built in 1962.  The model is very accurate, coupled with the superb Society graphics, resulting in another quick sell-out.

This four-car set was a representation of the Alton steel cabins purchased new in 1940 from ACF. The set represented cars in the Alton-GM&O transition years of 1947-1950, when the graphics changed from one road to the next. This was another example of the perfect car married to great paint and graphics.

#17     1998

Rd. Nos. 59110 59111

The first of three Society offerings in 1998, the two 60’ PS1’s numbered as 59110 and 59111 accounted for the entire two car series!  Unfortunately, there was no 100% correct model of the Pullman-built car on the market at the time.  Con-Cor had a 60’ Greenville car, which was the same except for the bottom sill and placement of the truck bolsters.  The graphics were perfect, however, resulting in a quick sellout of this offering.

#18     1998

Rd. Nos. 10101 10112 10115 10117

The second project of ’98 was the Society’s first ever gondola.  The Eastern Car Works 65’ mill gondola kit was perfect for the railroad’s 10100-10124 series cars built in 1948.  The graphics came gratis via End Cab Models, and the model, despite not being the easiest in the world to construct, did very well.
